BREAD AND CIRCUS IN OUR LIFE

“PANEM ET CIRCENSES”

The phrase listed in the Title is Latin meaning “Bread and Circuses”. In ancient Rome politicians knew that if they could keep the population entertained and fed, they did not have to institute sound policy.

Are we bought off with Bread and Circuses? The average American home has 2.5 televisions. Many homes have more televisions than people. Computers, Internet, IPods, phones that serve has hand held computers, and surround sound are part of every day life.

Yet the average American saves $392 per year. Maybe it is time for a New Year’s Resolution. Perhaps it is time to stop seeking entertainment and to start taking care of ourselves. Don’t let the “Bread and Circuses” steal your liberty.
